What Do We learn in this Class?
In Puericultura : Child Care Course in English organized by the AloMama Breastfeeding Center, we extensively discuss and demonstrate through experience and practice the most important aspects of caring for and feeding the newborn in the first six weeks after birth and beyond. The course is structured into two sessions (one session per day): newborn care and newborn feeding.
How is the Course Conducted?
It’s important to know that we offer both physical participation at the AloMama Breastfeeding Center and live online participation via the Zoom platform. Live online participation means the course is broadcast at the same time as the physical session, providing you the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other participants. You only need a phone (or tablet or laptop) and a stable internet connection.
We Follow This Format, Efficient and Useful for Parents:
Module 1: Newborn Care (Approx. 2 Hours)

Birth: What to expect in the delivery room, duration, and when you’ll be in the room with your baby.

Skin-to-skin contact and the magic hour: What they are and their benefits.

Newborn appearance: What a full-term newborn looks like and how they react.

What to expect in the first days after birth.

Newborn conditions: Aerophagia, hiccups, sneezes, colic, jaundice.

Newborn hygiene: Umbilical cord care, cleaning the nose, eyes, and genitals, bathing, and diaper changing.

Newborn environment: Room temperature, bathing temperature, when to take them outside, dressing, car travel, babywearing, and pets.
Module 2: Newborn Feeding (Approx. 2 Hours)

Importance of breastfeeding information before birth.

Stages of breast milk – lactation.

Proper latch-on technique – breastfeeding positions demonstrations.

Number and duration of feedings – realistic expectations.

Monitoring breastfeeding effectiveness – is the baby satisfied?

When is supplementation necessary?

Breastfeeding challenges and solutions.

Duration and long-term benefits of breastfeeding.

Expressing, storing, and preserving breast milk.

Diet of the breastfeeding mother – myths and realities.

How to receive help and support with breastfeeding in the hospital.

How to receive help and support with breastfeeding after returning home.
What Benefits Does the Course Offer You?
You will become aware of the significant changes that will occur in your life once you become a parent, especially if you are a first-time parent. If you have already experienced parenthood, you will find answers to past questions and difficulties, preventing future challenges. Additionally, you’ll make friends with parents whose children will be about the same age as yours, creating a community.
For fathers, the right to 15 days of paternity leave is provided by OUG 117/2022. According to this regulation, fathers are entitled to 10 working days of paternity leave. If they also have a certificate of completion for a puericulture course, the leave duration will be 15 days!
